Texaco Cast Iron Scottie Paperweight |
Promotional Texaco Cast Iron Scottie Paperweight
Rare full-figure, solid Antique sitting Scottie with head tilted.
cast iron Paperweight. A promotional piece put out by Texaco,
titled Listen. In 1929 Texaco commissioned noted dog and
animal artist Morgan Dennis to draw a dog picture to use in
advertising. His drawing of a pair of black Scotty dogs, heads
cocked, was entitled “Listen”. Texaco ran many ads and some
service stations promotions used these Listen Scotties. The Scotties were
supposed to be listening in vain for any extraneous engine sounds
after adding Texaco’s crack-proof motor oil to the car’s crankcase.
Their main slogan was “Get Ready Today for Tomorrow!
Drain Summer Oil, Fill with Winter Texaco then Listen”.
Extremely difficult to find this Scotty Paperweight. Weighs 2 lbs. 6 oz.
Attributed to the National Sewing Machine Co. of Belvidere, IL.
Ca. 1929-30’s.

match safe. Advertising “Eclipse Stoves”. It has two
large pockets - top reads, “This Holds All The Waste
Fuel From An Eclipse Gas Stove”. Bottom reads –
“This Holds The Only Kindling Required For An
Eclipse Gas Stove”. Center between pockets, “Eclipse”.
Very clever advertising! Striker under bottom pocket.
Numbered “1104”.
