Duck Cast Iron Sink Box Hunting Decoy |
Wonderful full-figure, solid casting of a Duck cast iron Sink Box Decoy. Very unusual form with high head, cast eye, and rigging hole in tail to place a tether.
These heavy iron hunting decoys were used as a ballast on sink boxes in rivers, marshes and bays. By 1839, New York prohibited the use of sink boxes and from 1852 to 1897, other states such as Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and New Jersey banned their use as well, and all were banned elsewhere with the passing of the Migratory Bird Act of 1918.
Makes a solid doorstop or a decorative sculpture.
Weighs 34 lbs. Ca. 1920’s-30.
RARE and DESIRABLE!!

Antique Turkey Cast Iron Hubley Bookends |
Exquisite detailed casting of three Turkeys
cast iron Antique Bookends. Showing a realistic wild-life
scene of one Tom or Gobbler and two Hens on a log with rocks
and trees in background. These bookends are by far
the best works of art in design, skill, and craftsmanship that
Hubley produced in cast iron. At first look one would think
they had been produced by Bradley and Hubbard with
such attention to detail.
Made by Hubley and numbered 139.
Ca. 1920s-30s.
