Thornton Burgess Squirrel Owl Tin Penny Bank |
Initially filled with candy, this cleverly designed candy container,
once emptied, would serve as a child's penny bank.
Happy Jack, by Thornton Burgess, is a classic nature story
about a mischievous squirrel and one of the most popular
and beloved animal stories ever. Delightful and charming
graphics showing Happy Jack gathering Hickory Nuts with
his other forest friends and showing an owl as the
"Receiving Teller" for "Security Storage and Trust for Squirrels &
Chipmunks". Note the running bee with a net! Marked on top-
"If you Get and Spend a Penny.
Then of Course You Haven't Any.
Be Like Me - A Happy Jack
And Put It Where You'll Get It Back."

Pleasing colors of blue and red on cream background.
What is so interesting about this bank it is only celluloid on the front side
with back made of tin. Also, you had to break this bank open to retrieve
your money, making this a very rare bank to have survived.
Circa 1914.
